Marjorie Taylor Greene gets into Capitol Hill office spat over transgender flag

Congressional neighbors are in an ongoing public spat Thursday, with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene placing a sign outside her Capitol office proclaiming “there are two genders,” following Rep. Marie Newman putting up a transgender flag next to her door to protest the Georgia Republican’s opposition to the Equality Bill.

Greene, who was elected in November, posted a video Wednesday of her hanging the sign, which reads “There are TWO genders: Male & Female, Trust the science.”

It sits directly across the hall from the office of Rep. Newman, who has a transgender daughter.

Newman (D-Ill.) also posted a video of herself on Twitter, showing her hanging a transgender flag.

”Our neighbor, @RepMTG, tried to block the Equality Act because she believes prohibiting discrimination against trans Americans is ’disgusting, immoral, and evil.’ Thought we’d put up our Transgender flag so she can look at it every time she opens her door,” she said in the post.

The two congresswomen have been taking shots at each other all week amid the debate over the Equality Act.

Taylor Greene, who opposes the legislation, responded to a tweet from Newman about her speech on the House floor in support of the bill.

“Without the Equality Act, millions of Americans like my daughter can be denied housing, education, and more simply because they identify as transgender. I’m voting to pass the Equality Act for my daughter – the strongest, bravest person I know,” Newman said.

The Georgia representative took a shot at Newman in her own post.

“As mothers, we all love and support our children. But your biological son does NOT belong in my daughters’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams,” she said.

Earlier, Taylor Greene noted that she has introduced a motion to adjourn “in order to give every Member of Congress time to rethink destroying #WomensRights and #WomensSports and #ReligiousFreedom before voting for the #EqualityAct!”

Taylor Greene, who was stripped of her committee assignments for voicing QAnon conspiracy theories, also feuded with Democrat Rep. Ted Lieu over the Equality Act.

Lieu of California noted her motion to adjourn in a tweet addressed to her.

“Dear Rep @mtgreenee: Congratulations on making your first random motion to adjourn! Can you feel the power? You get to force all Members to show up on the floor. The downside of course is that it’s a waste of time and taxpayers money for us to vote on stupid, nonsensical motions,” he said earlier this week.

She hit back.

“I hope by making you actually have to walk to the chamber to vote (do your job), that perhaps there will be enough blood flow to your brain to vote NO to the #EqualityAct and NOT destroy #WomensRights and #ReligiousFreedom,” Taylor Greene said.

”In the real world, people don’t complain like you do.”

The House is expected to vote on the legislation, which would explicitly extend federal civil rights protections to LGBTQ Americans, sometime Thursday.
